Osteoma in the temporomandibular joint (Case report)

Osteomas are benign slow growing osteogenic tumors mostly arising in the craniofacial region and characterized by deposition of differentiated mature either or both cancellous compact bone. Osteoma accounts for 2-3% all bone primary with an incidence 10-12% among skeletal neoplasms. Objective: The objective this work is to describe a clinical case osteoma temporomandibular joint diagnosed maxillofacial surgery service General Hospital Pachuca State Hidalgo, Mexico. Clinical Case: A 39-year-old female patient who comes Pachuca, Mexico due pain noises right preauricular 6 years evolution, facial asymmetry, mandibular deviation left limited mouth opening. Clinically, left, posterior crossbite, anterior open bite mainly on affected side, pain, sounds, limitation movements were observed. Radiographic examination revealed trapezoidal mass measuring 2.5 2.0 cm, alteration condyle-mandible anatomy side. An insertional biopsy performed, reporting osteoma, surgical intervention continued. Conclusion: rare lesion, its timely value essential treatment. Surgical resection gold standard treatment, which based radical excision that extends altered normal bone, contextual achieving optimal aesthetic result choosing least invasive treatment possible.
